Deepavali or more commonly known as 'Diwali' is the festival of light and hope that is celebrated across the whole of India and by many Indians residing in other countries. For Hindus, Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes.

Deepavali is celebrated by lighting candles and small earthen oil lamps called 'Diya'.

Diwali is celebrated in various parts of the world, particularly those with large populations of Hindu and Sikh origin. These include countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar,[27] Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Guyana, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, the Netherlands, Canada, the United Kingdom,[27] and the United States.

The whole community is welcoming this festival of lights. The Chief Minister of Malacca and the Mayor of this Heritage City are wishing all Hindus a Happy Deepavali and their wishes are seen on the streets banners, neon lights, billboards and LED panels across the city. Following behind them are companies, traders, retailers and community leaders and many others who are making this festival a merry one, hand in hand.

There will be an Open House at Pigeons Field or Padang Niru in Malacca on 29 October 2011. All are welcome. This is only one of the many events that takes place once a year. Don't miss the opportunities.
